Prismatic Star Series

For the past several months I have had a group of eight working on the Quiltworx pattern, Prismatic Star. This paper pieced exploded star quilt uses a Quiltworx (48) 2-1/2” strip strip set. Strips are sewn onto foundation paper to complete what we call a ‘Strip Set’. After the strip sets are completed, they are cut apart, rearranged and resewn into a diamond star point.

In our first session, we learned how to organize and prep our patterns and prepare our fabric strips.

The techniques used in this method make the process of creating a lone star fast and easy without the use of Y-seams. And when using a Quiltworx strip set you get diamonds using 6 different color groups of batiks which are already sorted from light to dark for a gorgeous ombre’ effect in the finished quilt.

Although most of the participants used the same color strips, each quilt has a different look depending on how they choose to arrange their diamonds and whether they select a light or dark background.

Prismatic Star finishes out at a nice 68″ x 68″ quilt and is Quiltster compatible which means you can expand the 68″ to a 99″ Queen using one of the 242D borders available on Quiltster. It also means you can color this pattern using fabrics in your own stash! Custom color Quiltster Consultations are available on our website. Let VidaAnn help you color your Prismatic Star with a custom colorway or fabric from your stash just like she did for one of her participants giving them three different options from which to choose.

I also offer custom digital quilting for Prismatic Star. Plus I offer a discount on all long arm digital quilting to my class participants in any of my Judy Niemeyer classes. Contact us for details.
